About us
The team at Max 88 Performance have over 15 years’ experience in working on VX220 and Lotus cars, and providing parts for a number of makes and models.
The business started as a hobby when I first bought my VX220 back in 2006 and set out modifying it. After this, I decided to do a DIY version of the very expensive supercharger conversion and saved a considerable amount of money.
My passion grew and grew and having achieved amazing things in the VX220 world (like being the lead mechanic in the Time Attack winning VX220 with Jimmy White driving, which even ended in me taking my engine out of my VX220 and fitting it to his car for the last few races!), I then helped build the next Time Attack car driven by Mike Cantello, who ended up winning two seasons.
I then decided to change cars to a Lotus S1 Motorsport Elise as I always loved this shape, but the engines were always a let-down, so I fitted a top spec forged K20 2.2 engine with a 1320 supercharger and fully rebuilt the car using top of the range parts, including GT hubs, quantum shocks and a reverie interior.
Taking the Plunge
It was at this point I decided to start Max 88 Performance – the name comes from my son and my work on VX220 and Lotus cars full time. I bought a unit big enough for 3 cars inside, along with a stock room and a workshop, and we got going! We are constantly growing and building stock, and the workshop is always full.
We have also completed a number of Saab conversions, engine rebuilds and engine swaps, and are currently undergoing a Honda K20 engine swap in a VX220.
